Why Is There Condensation on the Glass Door of My Drinks, Beer or Wine Fridge?

Condensation or water droplets forming on the outside of a glass-door drinks, beer or wine fridge is usually caused by humidity in the surrounding air and is not normally a sign of a fault with the appliance.

Warm air can hold more moisture than cold air. When warm, humid room air comes into contact with the colder glass surface of the fridge door, the moisture in the air can condense and form small droplets of water on the glass.

This is more likely to happen during warm or humid weather, in rooms with poor ventilation, or where the fridge is positioned near sources of moisture.

How Can I Reduce Condensation on the Glass Door?

There are several things you can try:

• Check the temperature setting – Setting the fridge unnecessarily cold increases the temperature difference between the glass and the surrounding room. Where suitable for the products being stored, try increasing the internal temperature slightly.

• Improve room ventilation – Increasing airflow around the fridge can help reduce local humidity.

• Use a dehumidifier – If the room is particularly humid, a dehumidifier can significantly reduce moisture in the air.

• Move the fridge away from humid areas – Avoid positioning the appliance close to kettles, dishwashers, cooking areas, bathrooms, tumble dryers or other sources of heat and moisture.

• Allow sufficient ventilation around the appliance – Always follow the ventilation clearances stated for your model.

• Keep the door closed where possible – Frequently opening the door can introduce additional warm, humid air around the appliance.

Is Condensation on the Glass a Fault?

In most cases, external condensation is a normal environmental effect rather than a product fault. The amount of condensation can vary considerably depending on room temperature, humidity, fridge temperature and ventilation.

It can also be more noticeable on glass-door fridges because the glass surface becomes colder than the surrounding room air.

If required, simply wipe away any moisture with a soft, dry cloth.
