Correct installation is essential for ensuring your fridge operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal noise. Before switching the appliance on, follow the guidance below carefully.
Before Using the Appliance
Remove all internal and external packaging materials, including:
Protective film
Cardboard
Foam inserts
Adhesive transport tape
Packaging around shelves, doors, or accessories
Check that all supplied items are present. Depending on the model, these may include:
Removable shelves
Operating manual
Two keys
If anything appears to be missing, contact the retailer or Subcold Customer Service before using the appliance.
Allow the Fridge to Stand Upright
After delivery, place the fridge in its intended upright position and leave it standing for at least 2 hours before connecting it to the power supply.
This allows the refrigerant and compressor oil to settle after transport and reduces the risk of a refrigeration system malfunction.
If the appliance has been transported or stored on its side or back, a longer settling period may be required. Refer to the product manual for model-specific guidance.
Clean the Interior
Before placing any drinks or food inside, clean the interior surfaces using a soft cloth and warm, soapy water.
After cleaning:
Wipe the interior again with a clean, damp cloth.
Remove any remaining soap residue.
Dry all surfaces thoroughly with a soft towel.
Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, solvents, bleach, or strongly scented cleaning products, as these may damage the interior.
Choose a Suitable Location
The fridge must be installed indoors on a firm, flat, stable, and level surface capable of supporting the total weight of the appliance when fully loaded.
Do not install the fridge in:
Unheated buildings
Garages
Sheds
Outbuildings
Outdoor areas
Areas exposed to rain or moisture
Unless the product documentation specifically states otherwise, the appliance is designed for indoor use only.
Keep the fridge away from:
Direct sunlight
Radiators
Cookers and ovens
Boilers
Open flames
Other sources of heat
Flammable or combustible substances
Exposure to excessive heat can increase energy consumption, affect cooling performance, and potentially damage the appliance’s external coating.
Very low ambient temperatures can also prevent the appliance from operating correctly.
Freestanding Installation Only
This fridge has been designed as a freestanding appliance.
It should not be installed inside a cupboard, cabinet, enclosed alcove, or built-in housing unless the model is specifically described as suitable for built-in installation.
A freestanding fridge requires open space around it so that heat produced during operation can escape. Installing it in a confined space may restrict airflow and could result in:
Reduced cooling performance
Longer compressor running times
Increased energy consumption
Higher operating noise
Excessive frost or condensation
Overheating
Reduced appliance lifespan
Do not cover or block any ventilation openings.
Allow Sufficient Ventilation
For proper airflow and heat dissipation, maintain a minimum clearance of approximately:
3 to 5 cm above the appliance
3 to 5 cm on each side
Adequate space behind the appliance for ventilation and to prevent the power cable from becoming trapped
More clearance may be required for certain models, so always follow the distances stated in the operating manual where available.
The fridge should not be pushed tightly against a wall or surrounded by other appliances or furniture.
Level the Appliance
Adjust the front feet so that the fridge stands firmly and does not rock.
The appliance should be:
Stable
Level from side to side
Positioned on a solid surface
Slightly tilted backwards where appropriate
A slight backward tilt can help the door close securely against the fridge frame.
Correct levelling can also reduce:
Vibration
Rattling
Excessive operating noise
Door alignment problems
Make sure the adjustable feet are in firm contact with the floor.
Check the Door
Before switching the fridge on, check that the door:
Opens and closes freely
Is correctly aligned
Closes fully
Seals evenly against the fridge frame
Is not obstructed by shelves, bottles, or packaging
A poorly sealed door allows warm air into the appliance, which can increase compressor running time, frost buildup, energy use, and noise.
Check the Drip Tray
Before connecting the appliance to the power supply, inspect the drip tray located above the compressor at the rear of the fridge.
Make sure the tray is:

Securely fitted
Not loose
Not touching any moving or vibrating components
An incorrectly fitted drip tray may cause rattling or vibration noises during operation.
Connect the Fridge to the Power Supply
Once the appliance has stood upright for the required period and all installation checks have been completed, connect it directly to a suitable mains power socket.
Where possible:
Use an easily accessible wall socket.
Avoid extension leads or multi-plug adaptors.
Make sure the power cable is not trapped, crushed, or damaged.
Confirm that the voltage shown on the appliance rating label matches the local power supply.
Do not plug in the appliance if the cable, plug, or socket appears damaged.
Starting the Fridge
After switching the appliance on, set the thermostat to the middle setting unless the product manual recommends otherwise.
Allow the fridge to cool with the door closed before loading it. Depending on the model and room temperature, this may take approximately 2 to 4 hours.
Avoid filling the appliance immediately with warm products, as this will increase the time required to reach the correct temperature.
