VINO Wine Cooler Error Codes: HH and LL

If your Subcold VINO thermoelectric wine cooler displays an HH or LL error code, this usually means the temperature detected inside the appliance is outside its expected operating range.

These warnings can often be caused by the surrounding room temperature, restricted ventilation, or an issue with the cooling fans.

What Does the HH Error Code Mean?

The HH code normally indicates that the temperature inside the wine cooler has risen above the expected range.

This means the appliance is detecting that the cabinet is too warm.

Common Causes of an HH Error

Possible causes include:

  • The surrounding room temperature is too high

  • The appliance is positioned in direct sunlight

  • The cooler is located near a radiator, oven, or another heat source

  • There is insufficient ventilation around the appliance

  • The rear vents are blocked

  • The cooling fans are obstructed by dust or debris

  • One or more fans are not operating correctly

  • The door has been opened frequently

  • A large number of room-temperature bottles have recently been added

  • The door is not closing or sealing correctly

Thermoelectric wine coolers are more affected by ambient temperature than standard compressor appliances. When the surrounding area becomes too warm, the cooler may struggle to remove enough heat from the cabinet.

How to Resolve an HH Error

Check the Room Temperature

The VINO wine cooler should be used in a suitable indoor environment.

The recommended ambient operating range is generally approximately 16°C to 32°C, although you should always check the manual for your specific model.

If the room is too warm:

  • Move the cooler to a cooler area

  • Keep it away from direct sunlight

  • Keep it away from radiators, ovens, and other heat sources

  • Avoid placing it in a conservatory or another area that becomes very hot

Check the Ventilation

Make sure there is sufficient clearance around the appliance so that heat can escape.

Check that:

  • The rear vents are clear

  • The cooler is not pushed tightly against a wall

  • Nothing is covering the ventilation openings

  • The appliance is not enclosed inside a cupboard

  • There is adequate space around the sides and rear

Restricted airflow can cause heat to build up and may trigger the HH warning.

Inspect the Fans

Switch off and unplug the appliance before inspecting the fan area.

Check for:

  • Dust

  • Hair

  • Packaging

  • Debris

  • Foreign objects

  • Anything touching or blocking the fan blades

Clean the fan and ventilation area carefully using a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner with a suitable brush attachment.

Do not insert fingers or tools into the fan blades, and do not spray water or cleaning products into the vents.

After reconnecting the cooler, check whether the fans are operating.

Check the Door

Make sure the door:

  • Closes fully

  • Seals evenly against the cabinet

  • Is not obstructed by bottles or shelves

  • Has a clean and undamaged seal

Warm air entering through a poor door seal can cause the internal temperature to rise.

Allow the Cooler to Stabilise

After correcting the installation or ventilation:

  1. Close the door securely.

  2. Avoid opening it unnecessarily.

  3. Leave the cooler running for several hours.

  4. Allow additional time if room-temperature bottles have recently been added.

The error code may remain visible until the temperature returns to the expected range.

What Does the LL Error Code Mean?

The LL code normally indicates that the temperature detected inside the wine cooler has fallen below the expected range.

This is often caused by the surrounding room being too cold.

Common Causes of an LL Error

Possible causes include:

  • The ambient temperature is below the recommended range

  • The cooler is installed in an unheated room

  • The appliance is located in a garage, shed, or outbuilding

  • The room becomes significantly colder overnight

  • The selected temperature is higher than the surrounding room temperature

A thermoelectric wine cooler is designed to cool its contents. It does not have a heating system.

If the room temperature is lower than the selected temperature, the appliance cannot warm the interior to reach the chosen setting.

For example, if the room temperature is 12°C and the cooler is set to 16°C, the appliance cannot increase the internal temperature to 16°C.

How to Resolve an LL Error

Check the Ambient Temperature

Confirm that the room temperature is within the recommended operating range, generally approximately 16°C to 32°C.

If the room is colder than 16°C:

  • Move the cooler to a warmer indoor location

  • Keep it away from cold draughts

  • Avoid placing it near open windows

  • Do not use it in an unheated garage, shed, or outbuilding

  • Allow the appliance and its contents time to adjust after relocation

Adjust the Temperature Setting

If the selected temperature is higher than the ambient temperature, try lowering the setting slightly.

The selected temperature must be achievable within the surrounding conditions.

Remember that the appliance cools only and cannot heat bottles or raise the cabinet temperature above the temperature of the room.

Allow the Temperature to Stabilise

After moving the cooler or changing the setting:

  1. Keep the door closed.

  2. Allow the appliance several hours to stabilise.

  3. Monitor the display.

  4. Avoid repeatedly changing the temperature setting.

The LL code should clear once the detected temperature returns to the normal operating range.

Resetting the Wine Cooler

If the ambient temperature, ventilation, fans, and door seal are all suitable but the error remains:

  1. Switch the wine cooler off.

  2. Unplug it from the mains power supply.

  3. Leave it disconnected for approximately 10 minutes.

  4. Reconnect it and switch it back on.

  5. Set the required temperature again.

  6. Allow several hours for the temperature to stabilise.

A reset may clear a temporary control-panel or sensor reading.

When to Contact Support

Contact Subcold Customer Service if:

  • The HH code remains after moving the appliance to a cooler location

  • The LL code remains in a room above the minimum recommended temperature

  • One or more fans are not operating

  • The fans make grinding, scraping, or unusually loud noises

  • The display does not respond

  • The appliance is not cooling

  • The error returns repeatedly under normal indoor conditions

  • The door does not close or seal correctly

  • The temperature shown appears clearly inaccurate

When contacting support, please provide:

  • The wine cooler model

  • The serial or batch number

  • Your order number or proof of purchase

  • The error code displayed

  • The selected temperature

  • The displayed internal temperature

  • The approximate room temperature

  • Confirmation of whether the fans are operating

  • Details of the ventilation space around the appliance

  • A photograph or short video showing the display and installation

This information will help the support team determine whether the error is caused by ambient temperature, ventilation, fan operation, the temperature sensor, the control panel, or another component.
