This does not always indicate a fault.
Why Thermoelectric Fridges Are Affected by Room Temperature
Thermoelectric fridges generally cool to a certain level below the surrounding ambient temperature rather than maintaining the same fixed internal temperature under all conditions.
This means their performance can change depending on where the fridge is located and how warm or cold the room becomes.
For example:
In a warmer room, the fridge may not cool as low.
In a cooler room, the internal temperature may fall further than expected.
Sudden temperature changes can cause condensation.
Frost formed during cooler conditions may melt when the room becomes warmer.
These effects are more likely in rooms where the temperature changes considerably between day and night or across different seasons.
Why Frost or Ice May Form
Frost can develop when moisture inside the fridge comes into contact with a very cold internal surface.
This may happen when:
The room temperature falls overnight.
The fridge is placed near an open window or draught.
The appliance is used in a garage, shed, conservatory, or other area with unstable temperatures.
The fridge is set to maximum cooling during already cool conditions.
The door is opened frequently, allowing humid air to enter.
Warm or uncovered items are placed inside.
A small amount of frost may clear naturally when conditions change. Heavy ice buildup should be removed by fully defrosting the appliance.
Why Water May Appear Inside
Water inside the fridge is often caused by previously formed frost or ice melting when the ambient temperature rises again.
Condensation may also form when warm, humid air enters the fridge and meets the colder internal surfaces.
You may notice water:
On the bottom of the fridge
Around the cooling plate
Beneath stored items
Around the door seal
After a sudden rise in room temperature
This can be a normal result of changing environmental conditions, provided the water is not excessive or linked to an electrical issue.
How to Defrost the Fridge Safely
If ice or heavy frost has formed:
Switch the fridge off.
Unplug it from the power supply.
Remove all contents.
Place an absorbent towel inside to collect melting water.
Leave the door open.
Allow the ice to melt naturally.
Do not scrape or chip the ice with knives, screwdrivers, or sharp tools.
Wipe the interior completely dry.
Check that no water remains near the fan, vents, controls, or electrical connections.
Reconnect the fridge once it is fully dry.
For light frost, a shorter defrost may be sufficient. For heavier ice buildup, allow several hours or leave the appliance open until all ice has melted.
Choose a Stable Location
For the best performance, place the fridge in an indoor area with a reasonably stable ambient temperature.
Avoid locations such as:
Garages
Sheds
Conservatories
Unheated rooms
Areas near open windows
Spaces exposed to direct sunlight
Locations near radiators or other heat sources
Rapid changes between cold and warm conditions increase the likelihood of frost, condensation, and water buildup.
Adjust the Cooling Setting
If the fridge has an adjustable cooling control, avoid using the coldest setting when the surrounding room is already cool.
A lower cooling intensity may help prevent the interior from becoming excessively cold.

Allow Adequate Ventilation
Thermoelectric fridges rely on airflow to remove heat from the rear of the appliance.
Make sure:
The rear vents are clear.
The fan is free from dust.
The fridge is not pushed tightly against a wall.
Nothing is covering the ventilation openings.
The appliance is not installed inside an enclosed cupboard.

When Water Is Not Normal
