If your Subcold AIRE thermoelectric fridge is not cooling as expected, follow the checks below before contacting Customer Service.
Thermoelectric appliances are affected by thermostat settings, ventilation, room temperature, door openings, and the temperature of items placed inside.
Check the Thermostat Setting
The thermostat controls the cooling level within the appliance’s designed temperature range.
On the AIRE model:
MAX is the coldest setting.
MIN is the warmest setting.
For troubleshooting, turn the thermostat towards MAX and allow the fridge several hours to respond.
Do not assess the temperature immediately after changing the setting, as the appliance needs time to stabilise.
Check the Power Supply
Make sure the appliance is receiving a consistent power supply.
Check that:
The plug is securely connected.
The wall socket is switched on.
The socket works with another appliance.
The electrical circuit is not overloaded.
The plug fuse is intact.
The power cable is not damaged or trapped.
Where a replacement fuse is required, use the rating specified for the appliance. For many UK appliances this may be a 13-amp fuse, but always check the plug, rating label, or operating manual first.
The interior light should illuminate when the appliance is receiving power correctly.
If the fridge has no light and is not cooling, try connecting it to another suitable wall socket.
Allow Adequate Ventilation
Thermoelectric fridges require sufficient airflow around the appliance to remove heat effectively.
Maintain at least 5 cm of clearance around:
Both sides
The top
The rear
Do not:
Push the fridge tightly against a wall.
Cover the ventilation openings.
Install the appliance inside a cupboard.
Enclose it within cabinetry.
Place objects against the vents or rear fan area.
Restricted ventilation can reduce cooling performance and cause the appliance to run less efficiently.
Check the Fridge Location
Position the appliance in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated indoor area.
Keep it away from:
Direct sunlight
Radiators
Cookers and ovens
Boilers
Other heat-producing appliances
Enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces
High ambient temperatures can reduce the cooling performance of a thermoelectric fridge.
Understanding Temperature Variations
Small changes in internal temperature are normal.
The air temperature inside the fridge can rise temporarily when:
The door is opened frequently.
The door is left open.
Room-temperature items are added.
A large number of drinks are loaded at once.
The surrounding room temperature increases.
Liquids cool more slowly than the air inside the appliance. A temporary rise in the air temperature does not necessarily mean the stored drinks are not cooling.
Measure the Temperature Correctly
For a more accurate reading:
Place a suitable fridge thermometer near the back of the middle shelf.
Keep the door closed as much as possible.
Leave the thermometer in place for several hours.
Avoid checking immediately after opening the door.
Avoid measuring immediately after adding room-temperature items.
For best results, use pre-chilled drinks where possible.
Check the Door
Make sure the door closes fully and seals correctly against the fridge frame.
Check that:
Bottles or shelves are not obstructing the door.
The seal is clean.
No packaging remains around the door.
The fridge is standing level.
There are no visible gaps around the seal.
Warm air entering through a poor seal can reduce cooling performance.
Test the Appliance
After completing the checks:
Set the thermostat towards MAX.
Make sure the fridge is empty or contains only a small number of pre-chilled items.
Close the door securely.
Avoid opening the door during the test.
Allow the fridge several hours to cool.
Thermoelectric appliances cool gradually and their performance depends partly on the surrounding room temperature.
When to Contact Support
Contact Subcold Customer Service if:
The appliance has no power.
The interior light does not illuminate.
The fridge does not begin cooling after several hours.
The thermostat does not appear to affect the temperature.
The appliance is correctly ventilated but remains too warm.
The power cable, plug, or socket becomes unusually hot.
The problem continues after trying another wall socket.
When contacting support, please provide:
The fridge model
The batch or serial number
Your order number or proof of purchase
The thermostat setting
The measured internal temperature
The approximate room temperature
Details of the available ventilation space
A photograph of the fridge installation
Confirmation of whether the interior light is working
This information will help the support team determine whether the issue relates to the thermostat setting, power supply, ventilation, installation, or another component.
