The AIRE thermoelectric fridge uses a fan as part of its cooling system, so some fan noise during operation is normal.
However, if the fan becomes unusually loud, starts rattling, or produces a scraping sound, follow the checks below.
Switch Off and Unplug the Fridge
Before inspecting or cleaning the fan:
Switch the appliance off.
Unplug it from the mains power supply.
Wait for the fan to stop completely.
Do not inspect the fan while the appliance is connected to power.
Inspect the Fan Area
Check the fan and surrounding ventilation area for anything that may be causing the noise.
Look for:
Dust
Hair
Packaging material
Loose debris
Foreign objects
Items positioned too close to the fan or vents
Carefully remove any visible obstruction.
Clean the Fan and Vents
Dust buildup can make the fan work harder and may increase noise.
Clean the area using:
A vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment
A clean, dry, soft brush
A dry cloth
Do not insert fingers or tools into the fan blades.
Do not spray water or cleaning products into the fan, vents, or electrical components.
Check the Fan Blades for Damage
Inspect the fan blades for:
Cracks
Chips
Bending
Loose fittings
Contact with the fan housing
A damaged or misaligned fan blade may produce rattling, scraping, or repetitive clicking sounds.
Do not attempt to straighten or repair damaged blades while the fan is fitted. If damage is visible, the fan may require replacement.
Ensure Adequate Ventilation
The fridge requires sufficient airflow around it to remove heat efficiently.
Make sure:
The rear vents are clear.
Dust is not blocking the ventilation openings.
The appliance is not pushed tightly against a wall.
Nothing is resting against the rear fan area.
The fridge is not installed inside an enclosed cupboard.
There is at least the recommended clearance around the appliance.
Restricted airflow can cause the fan to work harder and may increase both noise and heat.
Check the Fridge Is Stable
Vibration from the fan can be amplified if the appliance is placed on an uneven or hard surface.
Check that the fridge is:
Standing firmly
Level
Not rocking
Not touching a wall, cabinet, or nearby object
Positioned on a flat and stable surface
Also check that bottles, shelves, and other items inside the fridge are not vibrating against each other.
Test the Appliance
After completing the checks:
Make sure the fan area is clear.
Reconnect the appliance to the mains power supply.
Switch the fridge on.
Listen to the fan while the appliance is running.
A steady fan or gentle humming sound is normal.
If the loud noise has stopped, it was likely caused by dust, an obstruction, surface vibration, or an item touching the appliance.
When to Contact Support
Contact Subcold Customer Service if:
The loud noise continues after cleaning the fan area.
The fan produces grinding, scraping, clicking, or squealing sounds.
The fan blades appear cracked, bent, or damaged.
The fan repeatedly stops and starts.
The fan does not operate.
The fridge is no longer cooling correctly.
The noise has suddenly become much louder than usual.
When contacting support, please provide:
Your order ID
The delivery postcode
The appliance serial number
A short video or audio recording of the noise
Confirmation that the fan and ventilation area have been checked
The order and appliance details will allow the support team to confirm the warranty status and advise on the most appropriate next steps.
